Bardo

Bardo It's a hinny: a cross between a horse and a donkey...unlike the mule, which is born from a donkey and a mare. Both mules and hinnys are sterile: they cannot reproduce together and are therefore rarer than horses and donkeys. While the mule is known for its strength and endurance (in fact, it's larger, because they resemble their mother), the hinny is known for its strong personality! And Bardo is no exception: although small in stature, he keeps a tight rein on every horse he comes across.
He was one of the first to arrive at our rescue center, way back in 2008, following our first seizure for abuse: the owner kept him and other animals tied up in a dirty, garbage-filled patch of land, without enough food or water, and riddled with parasites. His only goal was likely to resell them at the first opportunity, perhaps to the butcher. Bardo was very boisterous in his early years, a real pest. Then, as he got older, he became decidedly calmer, but never lost his composure: whenever he could, he continued to escape from the enclosures in such a way that we couldn't even figure out where he was going. We've come to terms with it now, because that's just how he is: a world to be discovered and learned!
