Gandalf

Gandalf is the white stallion that moved Italy. He was found in Gallena, a ghost town in the Siena hills, where a count from Viterbo had a huge estate: a herd of horses lived free there. When the count died, the town was depopulated and the horses were moved. All except one, who refused to give up his freedom. Over the years, the white horse grew feral, aged, and became ill. Until a group of photographers posted a post on social media: a buzz ensued, with calls to save the white horse, renamed Gandalf. One of the owner's heirs, who had been tracked down, had decided to move him to a stable near Rome: a completely inadequate solution. So we stepped forward and obtained the green light to care for him. With calm, patience, and professionalism, we managed to approach him, put a halter on him, and perform his first veterinary visits. A serious condition in his front limbs was diagnosed, impossible to treat while remaining in the abandoned village. So, after starting him on anti-inflammatory medication and teaching him to ride in a van, Gandalf embarked on his first journey, arriving at the IHP Recovery Center in Montaione. Here, Gandalf lives as free as he always has, alongside his fellow dogs, but with all the care and attention he deserves.
Here are the videos that tell his story and our recovery:
