Spirit

Spirit He hails from Campania and arrived at IHP in 2017. He was wandering around a town near Salerno, debilitated and hungry. He was missing a microchip, and unable to locate his owner, the mayor placed him under administrative seizure. He later tested positive for equine infectious anemia and was therefore placed in isolation, as required by law. Meanwhile, a pseudo-breeder, claiming to be the horse's owner, had come forward to take him back, but upon learning of the positive test, he disappeared. Thus, after three months of keeping him at an authorized stable, the municipality, deeming the situation untenable, ordered his slaughter. Just one day before his "execution," some volunteers notified IHP: we obtained the horse and took him to the authorized IHP Center for the free-ranging management of AIE-positive horses.

Since then, Spirit has lived freely with his herd, all perfectly healthy horses who prove what we have always maintained: equine infectious anemia poses no danger to humans or equines, and it makes no sense to maintain laws that risk condemning horses to death for no real reason.

Spirit is unique in every way, not just his coat: cheerful, playful, a little anarchic and very curious!
