Xanto

Xanto arrived at the Rescue Centre shortly after IHP was founded.
One of our supporters—who later became a member of our board for a while—visited us and noticed that the only vehicle we had to move from one paddock to another was a very battered old van, which was on the verge of giving up on us. She didn’t hesitate to contact us and offer us what had been the car of her life, a vehicle she was deeply attached to. She would never have sold it for anything in the world, but with great generosity she decided to give it to us, convinced that we would take good care of it and that it would continue to be of great service for many years. And that’s exactly what happened.
In fact, in 2016 a fantastic group of Land Rover enthusiasts, led by Davide, took it in for a few weeks, turned it inside out, and handed it back to us as a super off-road vehicle, almost like new.
Xanto has been incredibly valuable all these years, both inside and outside the Rescue Centre. Thanks to him, we’ve been able to transport just about everything—including a few horses to the clinic on those rare occasions when it was necessary. This is why Xanto, like Balio, is not only our great friend but also a great friend to the horses.
His name comes from Greek mythology: Xanto was one of Achilles’ two immortal and formidable horses (they even had the gift of speech).
Xanto is a remarkable off-road vehicle that we never could have afforded to buy, which is why we are grateful to the person who donated him to us and why we do our best to keep him in perfect working condition.
We would love to involve you by creating a team of special long-distance adopters for both him and Balio: with a minimum donation of €20, you will be their sponsor for a year, helping us keep them in top shape so they can continue working at their best.
Of course, you are welcome to come meet them in person—and unlike with the horses, you can even climb on board!
